Big Fernand opened their first location in Paris in 2012, and now one in London too. Tucked away on Percy Street just off Tottenham Court Road in Fitzrovia. Big Fernand is utterly charming. French gastronomy marries an American classic in the heart of London. This isn’t just another burger joint, it is a hamburger workshop and it delivers on taste and quirk.
The menu grants you creative license, providing the freshest ingredients to build your very own burger. The meat at Big Fernand is all sourced from butchers that breed their cows outdoors and for the quality of their meat only. The chips are hand cut and the French cheeses are superior. this place is somewhere you can actually go with a date and not slobber burger juice down your hands, or clothes. Choose from high quality beef, lamb, veal and chicken to French cheeses, grilled veggies, and secret recipe sauces. Burgers come in six signature editions but you can also assemble your own and with ‘blue rare’ an option on the menu – you can have it however you want. The veal burger smothered with a home-made fennel mayonnaise, was mouth watering.
The double cooked chips are formed from whole slices of potato cut on site, fluffy on the inside, crunchy on the exterior. The paprika salt which is smothered across the chips was a nice touch but was a little too much for us, their secret Bebe Fernand BBQ sauce is also super tasty and one of the best BBQ sauces I’ve ever tasted.
The open kitchen is something we love seeing in any restaurant, it smells incredible and really gets your taste buds going, the hustle and bustle of it really adds to the quirky atmosphere, a crazy delicate friendly French frenzy. The French staff members are friendly and knowledgeable, wearing lovely signature rustic outfits.
