Stokey Bears

Rustic hangout turning out burgers with creative toppings.

8.9

Beefy joy and bacon jam.

Along with all other burger lover’s in the capital we are huge fan’s of Burger Bear Tom so it was a delight to find out that he had managed to get a site open in Stoke Newington. Thesedays, anyone with access to meat and brioche buns makes noise about how they’re grilling ‘London’s Best Burger’, with all the burger joints throughout the capital it really does take something to stand out from the burger crowd. Roll up Tom, the burgers here are definitely among the best you’ll get in London – some smothered with the Rib Man’s Holy Fuck sauce, another with bacon jam.

(We know it sounds wrong, but its so right)

The burger is great, it’s tasty without juices flooding all over your hand’s and the burger stays together when you lift it. Staff have that friendly chit-chat vibe that we love when hanging out at a burger joint; knowledgable about the food menu as well as informing you of the beer on tap all of which compliment the burgers perfectly.

‘The Angry Bear’ which is an old favourite of ours alongside some fries; all the flavours we have grown to expect from a burger bear were there, all tickling your taste buds making you want to take another bite whilst your still chewing your last. The fries were good and peppery, and your handed a big roll of tissue for cleaning the mess up afterwards – no cutlery provided (nicely done!). Also opting for the “The Greedy Bear”, which is two HUGE beef patties, four slices of bacon, four slices of cheese and more bacon jam! Can’t get enough of it.

Stokey Bears is in the site of a former pool hall on the high street and the space… still feels like a pool hall. It has a charming old school feel. Booths on one side, tables with keg chairs (those are kegs with cushions on top) on the other. Ordering bar at the end of the room. Dark colours with neon lights. Happy people eating burgers.

Overall, a fantastic addition to the Stoke Newington scene, so if you’re up in Stokey, give it a go before popping downstairs to Original Sin for cocktails. The London burger scene just continues to explode.
